CastleVille Beasties

They are the creepy denziens of the dark Gloom, these Beasties. They are sent forth by the Dark One to spread fear, sadness and despair and it’s your job to fight them and restore happiness to your kingdom. In CastleVille, Beasties are the creatures that you fight. Although combat in CastleVille is pretty simplistic, there are some things you should know, along with some cheats and secrets for the most efficient way to take on the Beasties.

First, though, let’s take a very brief look at the kinds of Beasties that you might encounter in the game.

Gloom Rat

The Gloom Rat is the first Beastie that you’ll encounter. There are two of them at the very beginning of the game. When you arrive, one of the first things you’ll do is help the Duke and Yvette fight off these two Gloom Rats. For this one encounter, each rat disappears with a single hit. That will change when you fight more Gloom Rats in the future: the regular ones each have 3 hit points. Gloom Rats tend to appear when you are cultivating your farm.

The game opens with a fight against two Gloom Rats.

Gloom Wolf

The Gloom Wolf is tougher and nastier than the Gloom Rat. A Gloom Wolf has 5 hit points, so it’s a little bit tougher to take down. See the Combat tips below for some tricks on adding damage to your attacks. Your first encounter with Gloom Wolves will be when you complete the building of your Maiden’s Tower. Two wolves will appear right nearby and you’ll have to fight them off.

The Beastie Problem

When Beasties appear, they create a lock on everything near them, meaning that you can’t interact with some of the objects in your kingdom until you fight and banish the Beastie in question. This can be a real problem depending on when and where the Beasties appear. The areas that are locked will appear in gray and red, and you’ll get a message if you try to click on them while the Beastie is still around.

Combat Tips

You’ll soon discover that fighting Beasties by hand is not very efficient and will waste a lot of energy. If you equip weapons, they do much more damage. For example, one of the earliest weapons in the game, the Club, does 3 damage per hit. It pays to have a few weapons saved in your inventory for when a Beastie attacks. The weapons are one-shot items and are used up with each hit. So a Club will eliminate a Gloom Rat, but you’ll need to do two hits by hand after one hit with a Club on a Gloom Wolf to defeat it. Still, the energy savings add up when you fight Beasties with weapons.
