Just like any good old fantasy game, CastleVille will have plenty of NPCs (non-player characters). These are characters in the game that are controlled by the computer, but interact with you and often are very important in advancing the storyline of the game. Because CastleVille will have a strong story, the characters you interact with will be a big part of your success. We haven’t learned about all the different characters you’ll see in the game, but here are a few tidbits we’ve learned from reading interviews with the game developers and watching some of the CastleVille videos available on YouTube and other sites.
Tom the Knight
Tom is an aging knight with a thick Scottish accent. He’s a friendly chap, and is getting on in years and seriously thinking about hanging up the sword and shield and enjoying a nice retirement. In the official trailer, he’s referred to as the Dragon Slayer who also has a weakness for cupcakes. Perhaps he’ll settle down with the right woman. When you interact with him, he helps you with several tasks and errands, including many of the early quests you need to finish in the beginning stages of the game.
Yvette the Lovely Maiden
All that is known right now about Yvette is that she is a lovely princess and is a fair maiden with a beautiful singing voice and long, flowing red hair. She wears a green dress and has a floral headband. In many ways, she looks exactly the part of a classic cartoon princess. She’s the center of attention in most of the promos that have appeared in the game so far. In some of the earlier videos and explanations of the game, her name was Giselle, but in the official trailer released on November 1, 2011 she was called Yvette.
Sonja the Pirate
Sonja is a mysterious and beautiful pirate girl who loves adventure and life on the seas. In one of the promotional videos, she can be seen reading a treasure map, and she appears in a few scenes with Raphael. In the official trailer, she’s portrayed as a gold digger, in search of the finest booty.
For Sonja, the pirate’s life was good until the Gloom arrived. Sonja’s beloved ship ran aground, sinking to the bottom of the ocean and taking her treasure – and presumably her crew – along with it. Although she searched unsuccessfully for years for the missing sailors, she still holds out hope that one day, she will be reunited with her hearty men.
For now, Sonja spends her time on shore searching for lost treasure, trying to catch a magic gift-giving fish, and plotting revenge against the Dark One for sinking her ship. And while she’s on land, maybe she’ll find a new first mate and take him – or her – along when she returns to the sea. As she likes to say, any port in a storm!
George the Miner
George is a friendly miner with big, muscular arms and a thick brown beard. He’s also sporting a viking helmet with horns.
Raphael the Playboy
Originally named Antonio, Raphael is the tall, dark and handsome type. According to the game designers, he’s a bit of a ladies’ man and from the video previews, enjoys a bit of ale at the tavern, along with showing off his chest at every opportunity he gets.
